Felodipine is a calcium channel blocker primarily used to treat hypertension and angina pectoris. As an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API), felodipine works by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. It is highly selective for arterial smooth muscle, minimizing cardiac effects. Available in extended-release tablet formulations, felodipine provides sustained blood pressure control with once-daily dosing.
